On the 29th November, the VIII edition of the ¨Cidade de Vigo” strings competition starts in Vigo, organised by the Galician String Instrument Association and sponsored by Ibercisa Deck Machinery and the City Council. In this year’s competition more than 60 young musicians from all over Spain and Portugal will come together to demonstrate their musical ability.

There will be an inaugural Concert on Friday evening at 21.00 hours in the auditorium of the Vigo Music Conservatoire which is open to the public featuring last years winners who will perform as soloists, accompanied by the Vigo Classical Orchestra. The competition, which lasts for three days is also open to the public and will take place within the Conservatoire.

The City of Vigo strings competition was born of the need to create such an event to encourage young soloists to perform in public and has become an important fixture on the musical calendar in Spain where there are few opportunities for this kind of experience.
