Ibercisa Deck Machinery designs and manufactures high-technology equipment for oceanographic vessels all over the world. Among our references are the “Sarmiento de Gamboa”, Spain’s flagship research vessel, as well as cutting-edge ships such as Sweden’s ‘‘Svea’’, Argentina’s ‘‘Mar Argentino’’ and ‘‘Antártica-1’’, from Chile.

Recent stand-out Ibercisa oceanographic supplies include:
  • The recent delivery of the 52-metre long “Tom Crean” for the Irish Marine Institute, built to replace the “Celtic Voyager”. The vessel was designed to incorporate the latest technology to guarantee the most efficient operation possible, assuring minimal fuel consumption and minimising the environmental impact and carbon footprint. It has designed to be as quiet as possible, complying with the strict criteria of the noise standard ICES 209 for fishing investigation. For this vessel Ibercisa designed, manufactured and delivered a full electric drive fishing winch package, as well as a specific research winch package and anchoring and mooring.

  • The new oceanographic vessel being built by Freire Shipyard for the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi. A vessel described by the Abu Dhabi government as “the most advanced research vessel in the middle east”; it is latest generation, and designed internally at Freire. It will be equipped with ecological sustainable technologies that combine solutions for lower fuel consumption and contaminant emissions, as well as allowing quiet operation at low speeds. It has accommodation for 18 crew and 11 scientists, will have some of the most advanced technology on the market that will help it carry out the various laboratory requirements on board: fish laboratory, chemical laboratory, biophysics laboratory, dry and wet laboratories, as well as a dive centre, among others.

  • The new multipurpose research vessel for the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO), the “Odón de Buen”, which will be built at Armón Vigo. The project will cost some €85 million, with financing from the EU, and it is one of the Spanish maritime industry’s most ambitious projects in recent years. 84.3 metres long, it will have the latest energy efficiency technologies, and it will place the IEO at the technological forefront with its echosounders, for the study of the marine depths as well as of the fisheries; uncrewed vehicles, operated remotely or autonomously; sampling systems, dredges and 500 m2 of laboratories.

There’s no lack of flags in our portfolio. Projects recently delivered or under construction:

South America
Ibercisa Deck Machinery is participating in two projects for Chile: Antártica-1 for the Chilean Navy which is the Asmar slipway; and the new research vessel for the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero – IFOP – which will be built at the Chilean shipyard ASENAV.

New Zealand
Ibercisa is taking part in the oceanographic vessel for New Zealand that is being built at Armón. The 36 metre vessel is for NIWA, the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research.

Greenland
The 61 metre Research vessel "Tarajoq", costing some 235 million Danish Krone, was the largest investment in research by Greenland. Owned by the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, it is equipped to map the topography of the seabed to a depth of 3000 metres. Built at Balenciaga Shipyards to a Skipsteknisk design, the vessel has a wide package of electric fishing, oceanographic and mooring winches.

Ibercisa’s design and manufacture of equiment for these oceanographic vessels include highly precise technology as well as equipment for the recovery of advanced instruments for precise oceanographic and geophysical measurements, including ROVs.

The experience of our technical office in this field is wide, and you can see it here.

To this you must add Ibercisa’s wide service network all over the world.
