Ibercisa Deck Machinery has designed and manufactured the deck naval equipment for
the new PSA Gemini tugboat, designed by Robert Allan with the Z-Tech design.
Cheoy Lee Shipyards in Hong Kong constructed and delivered it to
PSA Singapore Marine to operate in Singapore, one of the world’s busiest ports, where the tugboats will operate for around 6,000 hours per year.
This is one of the seven units that
PSA Singapore Marine will equip with Ibercisa’s equipment, given the robustness and durability of the machinery designed by the Vigo-based company.
Additionally, Ibercisa plans to implement a training programme for PSA Marine’s crews on the use of the machinery and continues to strengthen its presence in Singapore through its local technical service, Global Hydraulics.
The PSA Gemini is the first tugboat built according to Robert Allan Ltd.’s new Z-Tech 6000 design—a design that reflects PSA Marine’s 20 years of experience with the Z-Tech layout and has introduced improvements in operability, habitability, and reduced maintenance.
To date, according to Robert Allan, 16 vessels with this design have been commissioned for operations in Singapore, Panama, Thailand, and Peru.
The PSA Gemini has an overall length (excluding fenders) of 30.0 metres; a beam of 12.0 metres; a minimum draught of 5.19 metres; and a maximum navigation draught of 5.2 metres. It is prepared for a crew of 10 people and has been designed and built according to the following ABS notation: ✠ A1, Ⓔ, Towing Vessel, BP (60MT), ✠ ABCU, UWILD, ✠ AMS.
Equipped with Niigata 6L28HX engines with a nominal power of 1,654 kW, the unit achieved a bollard pull power of 64.6 tonnes and a maximum speed of 12.6 knots during trials.
