The pelagic trawler Ruth from Rederit Ruth, led by the prestigious owner Gulak Madsen, is obtaining record catches and from Ibercisa Deck Machinery we wish to show our great satisfaction at being part of this project. The vessel offloaded 2,150 tons of herring representing an income of around 1.950.510.00 euros. The boat has become the flagship of the Danish fleet and the herring it caught and filleted, according to the press in the Faroe islands was as big as salmon.
The 88m length vessel has lots of innovations for a semi pelagic boat. With its up to the minute machinery, it is defining a before and after in the units destined to fish pelagic species. Whilst under construction a new philosophy was implanted both on the part of the owner in working methods used as well as by Karstensens the shipyard in technical solutions under the supervision of Kent Damgaard.
Fundamentally dedicated to the fishing of mackerel, sprat, herring and blue whiting, in different campaigns throughout the year, Ruth was designed entirely by the Karstensens technical department and was the result of an extensive and laborious collaboration between shipyard and owner who worked together for months in order to lay out the project, concepts and new and better solutions, some of which should be underlined such as more efficient operation, environmentally more responsible, noise reduction, energy savings and last but not least, the safety and comfort of the crew onboard.
From a technical point of view the boat is extremely well equipped. Main Engine MAN -8L32 of 4.800 kW, 4 auxiliary engines Cummins, 3 of 1.000 kW and one of 500 kW.
The propeller is optimum for the necessities and specific services of the vessel: MAN diesel and turbo d4400. Brunvoll designed and supplied the lateral propellers, 2 of 950kW each and 1 combined retractable of 1.479 kW.
Ruth is the first pelagic/trawler in northern Europe to have installed electronically driven deck machinery giving a clear improvement in operating performance, needing less energy on board, offering flexibility for changing electric motors to increase torque, savings on installation costs etc. At Ibercisa Deck Machinery we have supplied machinery which was custom designed and built for the vessel in collaboration with its owner Gulak Madsen.
A total of 27 winches complete the package with frequency alternators and AFE (Energy Devolution Systems). At the moment, Ibercisa is the most experienced European company in the manufacture of this type of machinery which is electronically driven. The reason Gulak Madsen and the owner of the Ole Nattestad vessel have chosen electrical drive over hydraulic, was their desire to eliminate noise aboard, increase the comfort of the crews and obtain considerable savings in operational costs at sea.
The boat has been equipped as follows:
