Pelagic trawlers longer than 40 metres in the Irish fleet represent the best performing sector. They land large quantities of pelagic species such as horse mackerel, mackerel, herring and blue whiting. This Irish fleet operates seasonally from January to the beginning of April as well as in the autumn months from Killybegs, County Donegal, and Castletownbere, County Cork. In 2020, pelagic trawlers over 40 m landed 116,250 T, valued at €59 million.
This fleet can improve its operation by integrating
electric drive equipment. What does Ibercisa offer? In the pelagic sector, Ibercisa has supplied this type of equipment to several Danish and Faroese vessels. Examples such as the
Christian í Grótinum, the
Ruth, and the
Slaatteroy (Ex Ruth, currently sailing under a Norwegian flag), modern vessels with excellent results in fishing operations.
The electric drive winches and energy regeneration systems supplied to these ships allow for greater energy efficiency, reduced risk of oil leaks in the marine environment and greatly reduced noise levels, both aboard and to the sea, an aspect evermore regulated from an environmental point of view. Growing in popularity are battery systems that regulate energy surges and allow silent operation in ports, of which more are constantly requiring this. With systems of this type, the use of electric equipment makes more and more sense.
Initial reticence to adopting electric drive equipment onboard vessels is being left behind. Electric motors with the highest IP grade for deck duty (IP 56) allow for operation with total security. Electric drive deck machinery is the right choice for productive, safe and sustainable fishing, in both operational and environmental senses.
On the 23rd and 24th of February in Limerick, Ireland is the latest edition of the
Irish Skippers Expo. If you’d like to get to know the advantages of our electric drive equipment for the pelagic fleet, don’t hesitate to contact and set up a meeting with our Area Sales Manager
Jack Peile who you’ll be able to see at the show.
To ensure the continued correct operation of our equipment, Ibercisa Deck Machinery offers remote assistance as well as training to make the transition to these more efficient systems as easy as possible for the whole crew. At the same time, Ibercisa Deck Machinery is actively working at increasing its local service network in Ireland.
