Electric equipment on fishing vessels

The growing number of building contracts for fishing vessels in Galicia by Spanish owners is being felt in the orders department at Ibercisa Deck Machinery.

Traditionally the fishing sector had been the market cornered par excellence by the Vigo based company, however in recent years its fishing portfolio has been dominated by foreign owners, mainly from Iceland, Norway or Russia, the latter having recently signed various contracts for new vessels and refittings. With the reactivation of national builds, Ibercisa Deck Machinery has once again begun signing contracts with Spanish owners.

One of the recent supplies has been the deck equipment for a vessel which catches squid in the Falkland Islands built by Nodosa for "Kalamar Ltd", involving the Vigo owner Fontán. The owner has bet on electric drive technology and the order includes two trawl winches, two gilson winches, 4 sweepline winches, one codend winch, all electrically driven. The order includes anchor-mooring equipment composed by two anchor windlasses, two chain stoppers and one capstan, control systems and Scantrol.

At the same yard, Pereira Group is building a 74m trawler in conjunction with its partner Jupiter Fishing Company, which will also be fishing patagonian squid in the Falklands. This vessel has been designed to be energy efficient and has opted for electrically driven equipment. Ibercisa is designing and manufacturing the deck machinery for this vessel: two electric trawl winches; electric drive gilson winches; one electric codend launcher winch, one electric drive net drum, two electric auxiliary winches, one electric sounder winch, the control system and the Scantrol iSYM for the trawl and sounder winches and the anchor-mooring equipment composed by one anchor windlass, two roller stoppers and two electric capstans.

Nodosa is also building two "flyshooting" type vessels for Osprey, both with hydraulic machinery, namely two "flyshooting" trawl winches, two net drums, one trawl winch and two auxiliary winches.
